I have always been a huge fan of a classic Philly Cheesesteak. The combination of juicy steak, melted cheese, and sautéed peppers is hard to beat. However, since I started my keto journey, the big hoagie roll was a problem. That’s why I created these Keto Philly Cheesesteak Rolls.

Instead of bread, we use crispy slices of cheese to wrap up all that delicious filling. They are crunchy, cheesy, and totally guilt-free!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Zero Bread Needed: You get all the flavor of the original sandwich without the carbs.
  • Super Fast: You can have dinner on the table in under 30 minutes.
  • Family Friendly: Even my friends who aren't on keto ask me to make these for game night.
  • Customizable: You can add as many veggies or spices as you like.

What You’ll Need (Ingredients)

  • 1 lb Shaved Steak: Ribeye is best, but deli roast beef works too.
  • 8-10 Slices Provolone Cheese: This will act as our "wrap."
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper: Thinly sliced.
  • 1 Small Onion: Thinly sliced.
  • 1 cup Mushrooms: Sliced (optional).
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil or Butter.
  • Salt and Black Pepper: To taste.
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Sauté the Veggies

Heat your olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Cook them until they are soft and slightly browned (about 5-7 minutes). Scoop them out and set them aside.

2. Cook the Meat

In the same skillet, add the shaved steak. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until the meat is browned and no longer pink. Stir the cooked veggies back into the meat to combine everything.

3. Prepare the Cheese "Wraps"

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place slices of provolone cheese on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they aren't touching.

4. Bake and Roll

Bake the cheese slices for about 5 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and bubbly. Remove from the oven and let them cool for just 30 seconds (so they are firm enough to handle but still flexible).

Place a spoonful of the meat and veggie mixture in the center of each cheese slice. Carefully roll the cheese over the filling.

5. Serve and Enjoy!

Let them sit for a minute to "set" and become crispy, then dive in!

Tips for Customization

  • Make it Spicy: Add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the meat mixture.
  • Creamy Version: Stir in a tablespoon of cream cheese to the meat while it's hot for a "Cheez Whiz" style texture.
  • Different Meats: You can use ground beef or even shredded chicken if you prefer.

Serving Suggestions

These rolls are very filling on their own, but if you want a full meal, try these sides:

  • A side of ranch dressing or garlic aioli for dipping.
  • A simple green salad with vinaigrette.
  • Roasted cauliflower or zucchini fries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of cheese?

Yes! While provolone is traditional, mozzarella or monterey jack also melt and crisp up very well for the wraps.

How do I store leftovers?

These are best eaten fresh. However, you can store the meat and veggie mixture in the fridge for 3 days. When you are ready to eat, just melt fresh cheese and roll them up!

My cheese isn't rolling well, what happened?

If the cheese is too hot, it will be too runny to roll. If it’s too cold, it will crack. Wait about 30-45 seconds after taking it out of the oven for the perfect "rollable" window.

Is shaved steak expensive?

It can be, but many grocery stores sell "Philly Meat" in the freezer section or at the butcher counter which is very affordable and saves you time on slicing!
